On July 30/31 the United Nations sponsored the Sports Summit for the Environment at the World Expo in Aichi, Japan.
Speakers and special guests included Olympic medalists, Greg LeMond, the Princess Takamado of Japan, UN representatives, and Yo-Yo Ma! PEPY was also invited to attend as a project that promotes environmental awareness through sports.
"I think The PEPY Ride is a really great project and I am impressed with the effort of these women to spread environmental education.... I am very supportive of their project."--Greg LeMond, 3 time Tour de France winner

| Featured Sponsor - Wintergreen |
|
 |
|
Special thanks this month goes out to our wonderful sponsor,

Wintergreen Designs is a small town, family owned company where clothing is still "Made in the USA" from start to finish. Originally crafting apparel for landmark polar dogsledding expeditions, Wintergreen may not appear to be the best option for a stifling hot, dusty bike ride across Cambodia. However, now with a wide range of adventure clothing that would suit any outdoor enthusiast, Sue Schurke and her Wintergreen Designs are just what PEPY needs! Wintergreen is a conscientious supporter of various charity adventure expeditions. They are sponsoring The PEPY Ride with quality outdoor apparel. Visit www.wintergreendesigns.com to purchase your own gear, and let them know that PEPY sent you!

The recently opened groovygravycafe, selling global vegetarian food prepared by our Aussie pals Iain and Katherine Dewar, makes the perfect downtown venue for the PEPY used booksales.
English books are like gold dust amongst the literature-starved 'gaijin' (foreigner) community here in Hamamatsu, Japan. Our past two sales have been big hits, and folk are clamouring for more!
Everyone is keen to recycle their books, and Sunday afternoons are a great time for lazing in the cafe, browsing the reading material and chilling with friends, not to mention sampling the gastronomic delights cooked up by the chefs. The groovy proprietors generously donate $5 to the PEPY cause per lunch platter sold. So far the PEPY booksales have raised over $1500!
COME TO THE NEXT BOOKSALE IN OCTOBER!

Tokyo Charity Scavenger Hunt |
|
 |
The Tokyo Charity Scavenger Hunt has become a significant fundraising event for The PEPY Ride. On October 29, 2005, the 4th semi-annual scavenger hunt will take place on the streets of Tokyo. All proceeds will go towards the maintenance of The PEPY Ride School. The scavenger hunts offer a chance for teams to explore Tokyo in search of known and unknown people, places, and things while competing against the clock and other teams. It is a fantastic way to meet new people and discover Tokyo in an amusing and creative way!
Jamie Bauer, Megan Prescott, and Michelle Lydin are the 2005-06 Tokyo Scavenger Hunt Chairs. These three Americans live in Niigata-ken and are 2nd year English teachers. After traveling to Siem Reap, Cambodia in May 2005, they instantly became inspired to contribute to The PEPY Ride organization. This trio is prepared to offer a fun and fantastic Scavenger Hunt for all and, most importantly, educate others on how The PEPY Ride is making a difference in Cambodia.
Please view their website for more information about the upcoming Tokyo Charity Scavenger Hunt at www.geocities.com/tokyoscavengerhunt/ . |
