June 2007

Greetings from Cambodia!!

It's June and even though it's supposedly the rainy season the new interns at PEPY have yet to see a drop of rain!  This month, we have a bunch of updates about PEPY projects, upcoming tours, and PEPY events around the world.

Two PEPY Trips are fast approaching!  Make sure you don't get left out on these adventures!

Coming up in August, PEPY is offering the Sustainable Development Trip.  Sign up today for a chance to experience sustainable development first hand by volunteering with RDIC, a phenomenal organization dedicated to reducing poverty and empowering communities toward sustainable change.  RDIC's wide array of innovative projects are incredibly inspiring.  Volunteers will help build water filters, make soap, and assist with a variety of other projects.  Past participants have typically considered this the highlight of their trip!  Spots are limited, so sign up TODAY! Check out all the details here!

In November, PEPY will venture into new territory with the first PEPY Ride in Nepal!  PEPY has partnered with Tempus International to organize this exciting new trip through the fabled landscapes of Nepal.  Participants will explore the streets of Kathmandu, cycle across the lush countryside, visit local schools and an array of NGOs, and experience the extraordinary hospitality of the Nepali people in a truly unique way.  Check out all the details here!
The PEPY Newsletter will be back in mid-July. Lets hope that by then there's some rain to cool this place down a bit! Have a good month!

New Roof for the PEPY Ride School!

During the rainy season, even a few leaks can destroy a room full of books and the old building where the library is situated has more than its fair share. In order to fix the roof, PEPY allocated funds donated by a generous American family, and worked with community leaders to help raise the remaining cost of materials.

Real World Phnom Penh: The New Interns (Week One)
.
Three interns from the University of Notre Dame arrived to the PEPY House on June 6th.  Despite a threatening centipede in the bathroom and the intense heat, all three interns are still working hard! Read the interns' reflections on their first week with PEPY.

Forced Relocation of Phnom Penh Residents

Over the past year, the Cambodian government has forced large groups of Phnom Penh residents to relocate from their homes to areas outside of the city.  Unfamiliar with their inhospitable surroundings, these residents have struggled to survive.
